We were thrilled and excited when we boarded the 11:00 a.m. flight to Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir. We landed at 1:40 p.m. at Srinagar Military Airport and it was really hot at 37 Degree C. We took JKSRTC (Jammu Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation-01942455107, 01942475360) bus from Airport ( Rs. 50/- per head) and reached Srinagar Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) – 01942452690, 01942452691 at 2:45 p.m. You can also contact a helpful person, Majidbhai at TRC-+919858809078 for information regarding TRC. Tourist Taxi Stand near TRC, phone:01942452527, 01942104582. Srinagar is famous for its gardens, lakes and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dry fruits. We then reached Dal Lake from TRC ( Rs. 30/-) and finalized Deluxe houseboat, H B Rajas Palace on Dal Lake, for Rs. 1100 for the night. In the evening, we went for shopping and we then had dinner at one of the restaurants near Dal lake and retired for the day. We sat around the balcony of the houseboat and got some friendly advice to plan our travel for the next few days from the owner of the houseboat.
