Kashmir – Ladakh Trip Day 9 (Nubra Valley)

Today we were heading to Nubra valley for a visit and a overnight stay. So we kept our excess luggage at the Sheldan Holiday Home and headed for the bus stand. Unfortunately the bus to Nubra was not there for the day, hence took a shared taxi to Diskit from the Polo ground, charges – Rs. 800 per person to & fro from Leh to Nubra valley and visit to the Sand Dunes at Hunder . Stenzil is a nice driver who took us to Diskit, can be reached on +919469534556. On the way we passed the famous Khardung La , one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The pass on the Ladakh Range lies north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys. The Siachen Glacier lies partway up the latter valley. The pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry supplies to the Siachen Glacier, the highest battleground in the world where Indian and Pakistani troops are stationed. We took a tea halt where we took snaps with our Brave Jawans from a different regiment. Chanak vomited and fell sick so we went to the Army medical camp at Diskit, got free medicines :). Then visited the sand dunes and had fun. We spent the night at Hotel Siachen – Rs. 500 per night. A very nice place with warm hosts, in the evening took snaps of the colourful sky from the terrace.
